Baby It's Cold!

This morning the temps were freezing...right? That's no secret. Most of us adults dread the cold weather. It's harder to drive, you have bundle up in coats and layers that usually make you uncomfortable and if you leave the sprinklers on...well you're the idiot of the neighborhood with a frozen yard. But to a child...it's magic. I took the photo below of my oldest daughter just before she walked out the door for school. Don't let the cheesy smile fool you - she was genuinely excited...just because I added a scarf to her fashion ensemble. She doesn't get to wear them very often and this one is pink (favorite color of all 6-year-old girls) and soft (we all love that). Be careful out there today. And take advantage of your chance to bundle up with winter favorites. Tomorrow - it's back to spring-like conditions. We love west Texas.

E-Bay

This week I'm going to introduce you to several key people on our CBS 7 team. It'll be like a continuation of "Making News Texas Style." I thought you might have som efun seeing the people behind the scenes who make our jobs fun and make our news product better. I'm going to start with one of my favorite people...E-Bay. That's not his real name. It's actuallt Elias Hernandez. But I like to give people nicknames. Many of us called him "E" for a while. Then I came up with E-Bay....and it's stuck. Sorry "E"!! He is our web content producer extroidinaire!! Every day he's the person who makes sure ALL of our daily news (in written form and with video) makes onto CBS7.com. It's a huge and very important jobe because so many people go on-line these days for their news. And when we have a breaking news situation..we het thousands of hits. Our goal is to provide minute by minute changes and updates. And "E's" the man. He's very bright. When he started as an assistant (or was it an intern?) he quickly moved up to one of the most crucial positions in the newsroom. He does not get enogh credit - so let me use this blog to say...."THANK YOU E-BAY!!" And don't you think he's a cutie?? So young with so much potential!

A Sad Realization

This weekend I was looking through some old scrapbooks from my year as Miss Texas. When I opened this page, and read the caption, it made stop and say a little prayer. I just couldn't believe it. The article was printed in the Odessa American at the end of 1998. It highlighted some of the more memorable moments of the year, including my homecoming celebration after winning Miss Texas. Organizers made plans for a group of students to greet me at the airport with a banner and roses. The young boy making the presentation is Jacolby Swearington. As many of you know he's the brother of the young Odessa boy who was fatally shot at Club Pleasures in Midland. We interviewd him after his brother's death. How very sad and what a clear reminder that you never know who will cross your path in this life.

Food & Miss America

Here's a sample of the recent cooking I've been doing. Yum Yum. If you want the recipes...just let me know! I copied these from one of my favorite bloggers - Becky Higgins. She is a world-class scrapbooker. And she always has yummy recipes. Also we had a Miss America gathering last night. Some good friends, some fattening food, and predictions for who should win. I called it!! I also brought out some memorabilia from my Miss Texas days. It's been 10 YEARS!! Can you believe that? Take a look at our silly girl party.

Slow Start

This blog does not come easily for me. In fact, I find when I sit down to write something, I have nothing interesting to talk about. Mostly I have just been busy with "stuff"...housework, my job at CBS 7, taking care of my father who is battling a serious illness. No time to take pictures and certainly no time to figure out how to post them. But it's my goal. So I will continue to try and develop a routine. And I will try to come up with fun things to add.

I will share this little tidbit. I am trying to lose 15 pounds in 2009. I am involved in a program called Healthy Inspirations - and I love it. It's really common sense. With lots of support. No gimmicks. No magic pills. So far I've lost nine pounds and I feel much better. My clothes are fitting better too. But lately I've been sliding backwards - a handful of M&Ms here and there. So I'm praying for the strength to stick with it. I'll keep you posted.

The beginning

Well, I have no idea what I'm doing. But I am trying things out and using the inspiration I see from other bloggers. I plan to talk about the things I love. My family. My work. Inspiration. And of course, scrapbooking. So, here we go. Let's have a little fun, shall we?
